While India will look to ride the momentum from their warm-up match win vs Bangladesh, the Proteas are under the pump, having lost both of their opening matches against England and Bangladesh. On the eve of the clash Indian captain, Virat Kohli dismissed the notion that teams need to score 350-400 to win matches while saying that it depends on whether ‘the pitch allows you to do that’. Kohli also went on to say that his bowlers are ‘capable of defending any total’.”If the pitch allows you to do that, then obviously you want that 20-30 runs advantage. But if it doesn’t I think we’ll have to respect the conditions also which will be a very very crucial factor. We can’t say, just because a few games have been high-scoring, that we need to go out and necessarily get 350.”If the pitch demands us to get a solid 260-270 or just get to 300, with our bowling attack, we know any score is defendable, with the kind of skill set that we have and that’s the kind of belief we have in our side. We don’t necessarily need to look at any other side. Based on the conditions, if you look at the last game, Pakistan got to 350 and England couldn’t chase it so it’s not like Pakistan couldn’t get 350. Any team is capable of scoring big but it only depends on the kind of wicket you’re playing at. I think that will be a thing that we need to assess quickly,” said Kohli.advertisementKohli also dismissed the idea of teams, especially England, posting a 500 total during the World Cup 2019.”I doubt we will see that (a 500 total) in the World Cup to be honest because as I said, the pressure is a big factor. But maybe in the future, who knows. You see crazy things happening in cricket. Who’d imagined 400+in a 50 over game ever so anything can happen and there will be a lot of surprises in the future I think,” signed off Kohli. Also Read | World Cup 2019: How Pakistan defied odds to shock overconfident EnglandAlso Read | Don’t need to answer Kagiso Rabada in a press conference: Virat Kohli on immature commentFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports.
