Exclusive – Redknapp hails Hoddle’s ‘fantastic football brain’ after QPR appointment

first_imgQPR boss Harry Redknapp has expressed his delight at bringing Glenn Hoddle on board as a first-team coach and hailed the former England manager’s “fantastic football brain.”Hoddle has joined the newly promoted Premier League side and will form part of Redknapp’s backroom team alongside fellow coaches Kevin Bond and Joe Jordan. And the Hoops manager cannot wait to start working with the 56-year-old, in a similar fashion to how he worked with previous coaches Steve McClaren and Wally Downes.“We’re really pleased to have him. It was one million per cent my idea,” Redknapp told the Sports Bar.“He said he had quite a few commitments but I think he’s done away with most of the commitments already because he really wanted to get involved and get back on the training ground. I think he’s got a fantastic football brain and I think he will be a big help to Kevin, Joe and myself.“To be honest I don’t think you can have too many coaches. You’ve got 20 odd players so he can go work with one kid, work with the left-back and help him improve their game or do some work with the back four.“We can split up and work with people and give them more attention than they usually get in football. So I think it will be great to have him around.”Hoddle has not held any sort of coaching role since leaving Wolves eight years ago when he was boss and Redknapp tipped the ex-England midfielder to even possibly take over as the national side’s manager for a second time.“Why hasn’t someone used him? When Roy [Hodgson] finishes with the job in a couple years time, if they’re looking for an England manager there’s a boy at Everton [Roberto Martinez], there’s a young manager at Liverpool [Brendan Rodgers] who are fanatastic and there’s Glenn Hoddle.“They would be big contenders and I still put Glenn in that class. He’s still capable of managing at the very top level. He’s got so much to offer, he’s got a fantastic football brain and I think it has been wasted.”last_img read more

Chelsea players must accept fringe role -Conte

first_imgSpeculation earlier this week suggested that the 29-year-old could be a target for Barcelona in the January transfer window, if the La Liga leaders are unable to land Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho. But Conte has stressed that all Chelsea’s players need to understand why they find themselves on the bench at certain stages of the season.Conte said: “My players must be happy to stay in Chelsea and to play for Chelsea and to play for our fans. They must be happy if they start the game, or if they stay on the bench and come on.“I think I have clever players to understand the situation and accept it. [Eden] Hazard, at the start of the season, accepted the situation to stay on the bench before finding the right form. It’s the same for Pedro, for Willy [Caballero], for other players.“When you are in a great team, you have to accept this and, at the same time, you must be happy to stay in a great team.”0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today) 0Shares0000Chelsea’s manager Antonio Conte reacts during their UEFA Champions League Group C second leg match against AS Roma, at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, on October 31, 2017LONDON, United Kingdom, Dec 2- Antonio Conte insists Chelsea’s players must accept finding themselves on the fringes after being asked about Barcelona’s rumoured interest in Willian.Brazilian winger Willian has been in and out of the Chelsea XI this season, with 10 of his 21 appearances coming from the bench.last_img read more
